What Will Girls Learn
The Beginner Workshop at STEM the Gap Academy is designed for Sparks through Rangers. This engaging 2-hour session, available both online and in-person, offers participants the opportunity to:
Learn the names, values, and movements of each chess piece
Explore the history of chess
Master basic board navigation
Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Discuss important concepts around competition and taking risks
This fun and engaging class boosts chess skills and confidence, providing valuable life
tools. No experience is necessary!
Class Fees/ Methods of Payment
This 2-hour online session is $20 + HST per girl for up to 25 girls. The fee includes a digital workbook that students can use as a resource. In-person sessions have an additional $75 +HST fee.
Do we need chessboards?
While physical chessboards are not required to participate in this program, it is always good for girls to easily access them to practice after class. Having a chessboard in their home will increase their chances of participating and practicing the skills learned during A Girl Guide’s Guide to Life Skills Through Chess.
What is the minimum number of girls?
The minimum number of girls needed to hold a private virtual group session is 15. The minimum number of girls required to hold a private in-person session is 20. If you do not meet the minimum, let’s chat.
What is the maximum number of girls?
The maximum number of girls we can support at once is 25 online or in person.
