Karen Balbin

Karen Anne Balbin is the Operations Manager at STEM the Gap Academy. She initially joined the team as Administrative Service Manager from January to May 2024 before stepping into her current leadership role.  

Karen is a registered nurse in the Philippines and a graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. After completing her volunteer work in a hospital, she transitioned into the retail industry to pursue a more stable opportunity. She worked her way up from an entry-level role to Store Manager. For 14 years, her ability to thrive in a fast-paced, people-centered, and leadership environment has reflected her adaptability, work ethic, and passion for growth.

In 2023, after becoming a mother, Karen intentionally decided to pursue a remote role that would allow her to care for her baby while continuing to grow professionally. That journey led her to the STEM the Gap Academy, where she found alignment not only in work-life balance but also in a purpose that aligns deeply with her personal values.

Growing up in a family of strong, determined women, including two sisters who pursued engineering degrees in a male-dominated field, Karen witnessed firsthand the power of support and encouragement. Her parents instilled in her the belief that success knows no gender. That upbringing and her leadership experience fuel her advocacy to ensure that girls believe they can thrive in any field. With the unwavering support of their parents, they succeeded, reinforcing a powerful truth Karen lives by: with the right support and encouragement, girls can thrive in any field they choose.

Her career journey, from nursing to retail leadership to operations, further strengthened her belief that leadership and excellence aren’t defined by gender. She hopes to inspire young girls to see themselves as innovators, builders, and leaders in the STEM world through her work.

As Operations Manager, Karen plays a vital role in ensuring smooth preparations for each class and in maintaining the academy’s commitment to excellent service. She takes pride in helping create an environment where girls can grow in confidence, skill, and ambition.
